SayTXT Chrome Extension Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 12, 2026
PDF GEAR TECH PTE. LTD. ("we," "us," or "our") provides the SayTXT Chrome extension, listed as Text to Speech - SayTXT Reader (the "Extension"). This policy explains how the Extension handles information when you use it to read webpages or selected text aloud.
The Extension generates speech on your device. It does not upload the text you read or the audio it generates to us or to a third-party speech service. You do not need an account to use it.
Information handled by the Extension
When you start a reading task, the Extension accesses the webpage content or selected text needed for that task. This can include article headings, author and publication information, body text, and the page title. Selected text may include text from an editable field when you explicitly choose to read it.
The Extension also handles your chosen language, voice, and playback speed, along with temporary reading information such as the current sentence, word positions, playback status, and identifiers used to associate the task with its browser tab and document.
The content you choose to read may itself contain personal or sensitive information. That content is processed locally for reading, playback controls, progress restoration, and highlighting. We do not receive a copy through the Extension.
The Extension does not automatically read every site you visit or maintain a browsing-history log. Page access begins when you request a reading action, such as using the popup, keyboard shortcut, or selected-text context menu.
Local speech processing
Speech models, voice resources, and the software needed to run them are included in the Extension package. Speech generation and playback take place on your device. The Extension may check local browser and hardware capabilities to choose a supported processing method; it does not send those checks to us.
The Extension does not record your microphone, upload generated audio, or use your reading content to train AI models.
Storage and retention
- Preferences: Language, voice, and playback speed are saved in Chrome's local extension storage until you change them or remove the Extension. The Extension does not use Chrome's synchronized storage to sync these preferences across devices.
- Temporary reading state: Text needed to restore a task, the page title, reading position, and related task information may be kept in Chrome's session storage. The task and word-binding records are removed when reading finishes or is stopped. Session storage is cleared when the browser session ends.
- Page memory: Extracted text and its association with the original page may remain in that page's memory so you can read again. Reloading, navigating away from, or closing the page clears that page's copy.
- Audio and processing resources: Prepared audio is held temporarily in memory for playback. Stopping reading or closing the page control bar releases the speech-processing host. After reading finishes naturally, the host is released following a short idle period. Pausing retains resources needed to continue.
We do not maintain a server-side archive of your reading text, reading history, or generated audio.
Permissions
The Extension uses these Chrome permissions for its reading features:
- activeTab: Temporarily access the tab where you request reading.
- scripting: Run the packaged reading script to extract text, highlight it, and display playback controls.
- contextMenus: Offer selected-text reading actions in the right-click menu.
- offscreen: Generate and play speech in an extension document while the popup is closed.
- storage: Save preferences and temporary task state on your device.
The Extension does not request permanent access to all websites or access to Chrome's browsing-history database.
Analytics and sharing
The Extension does not include Google Analytics, advertising trackers, or usage telemetry. It does not send reading content, playback events, or device identifiers to an analytics service.
We do not sell or transfer your reading content to third parties. We do not use it for advertising, profiling, creditworthiness assessments, or lending decisions. We cannot inspect locally processed reading content through the Extension.
The Extension's use of information complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Information accessed by the Extension is used only to provide its user-facing reading features.
Your choices
You decide which page or selection to read and can pause or stop at any time. Closing the page control bar stops reading. You can change saved preferences in the popup, reload or close a page to clear its reading data from page memory, end the browser session to clear session storage, or uninstall the Extension to remove its local extension storage.
Websites, Chrome, and support
This policy covers the Extension. Websites you visit, Chrome, and the Chrome Web Store may handle information under their own privacy policies, including when loading webpages or distributing extension updates. Google may provide us with aggregate store statistics, such as installation counts; these are separate from analytics inside the Extension.
If you visit our website or contact support, information you voluntarily submit and information associated with that website visit are handled under the PDFgear Privacy Policy. Contacting support does not automatically send us your reading content. Any text, screenshots, or other material you choose to include in a support request is separate from the Extension's local reading process.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy to reflect changes to the Extension or its data practices. We will publish the revised policy on this page and update the date above. Any new data handling will be disclosed as required before it begins.
